The Avondale Fire Company had a very busy day on August 16th. The day started out with a hay bale fire in the area of Sunnydell and Egypt Run Roads. Engine 23-2 with 4 and Tanker 23 made a quick response. Engine 23-2 went on scene with about 60 ton of hay fully involved. There were no exposures around the hay pile.

Avondale Fire Company was then dispatched around 1000 hours for an engine at a reduced rate to go back to the hay bale fire.
Engine 23-2 found brush burning behind the hay pile. Engine 23-2 pulled the booster line and hit the hot spots.

The Avondale Fire Company along with 22 (West Grove), 27 (Cochranville), 36 (Po-Mar-Lin), 24 Ambulance (Kennett) and 25 (Longwood) for RIT were dispatched around 1300 hours for a dwelling fire on Hannum Mill Road. Chief 23 (Cole) made a quick response given the update that Chester County Fire Board believed it to be a working fire with possible entrapment. Chief (Cole) requested the working fire dispatch and Medic 194., With the working fire dispatch, it re-alerted 23,22,27,25 and it also added 24 for two engines, 21 for a second RIT and FM(s). . Ambulance 22-2 with Captain 23 (Franks) was the first to arrive and gave the report of fire showing from the D (Delta) side. Engine 27-2 was the first engine on scene dropping the 5” lay at the end of Hannum Mill Road. Chief 23 requested a second Medic to the scene. Engine 23-1 picked up 27-2 5” line supplying them. Tanker 22 set up a porta-tank for the tankers to dump into. Ladder 22's crew went in-service with a primary search. Engine 27-2's crew made a quick knock on the fire with Engine 23-1's crew splitting off to assist with primary search and opening up. While crews were searching the residents they found a victim, they quickly removed the victim for the EMTs to perform CPR. Engine 36's crew arrived and handle roof operations. Primary and Secondary searches were complete with no other victims. The fire was placed under control, units working.

The Avondale Fire Company with the standby crew was alerted for a fire alarm at 561 Hepburn Road. Crews found water from a sprinkler head. Crews shut the sprinkler system off and turned over to the manager for sprinkler service.

The Avondale Fire Company and standby crews were then alerted to a shooting with a man that shot himself in the leg by accident. Crews arrived and assisted EMS. Ambulance 21 transported one to Christiana.

Finally the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for a roof collapse at the house fire from earlier in the day with a rescue. Rescue 23, Squad 23, Tanker 4-5, Ambulance 24 and Medic(s) 94 responded quickly. Rescue 23 was informed that the patient got out of the collapse. Rescue 23 got to the scene confirming the patient was out of the collapse zone and was transported to Jennersville Regional Hospital.
