By Junior Firefighter Brandon Cole
November 27, 2015

The Avondale Fire Company was very busy on Thanksgiving. The day started off with assisting 25 (Longwood) with two engines for a chimney fire with extension into the walls. Engine 23-1, with a crew of six, responded minutes later. Engine 23-2 then responded with a crew of 5. Engine 23-1's crew went to division 1 to pull down ceilings and help open up the walls. Engine 23-2 crews went to division 2 with Deputy 25 to assist removing the roof from the second floor to the exterior.

Soon after crews cleared, they were requested to respond to a fire alarm in the 200 block of Good Hope Road. Deputy 23 (Carroll), responded and held the apparatus on station due to the homeowner wishing to cancel from a false alarm. Deputy 23 continued in to investigate. Deputy 23 went to the scene and confirmed the report.

After returning from these two calls, crews had an hour break before they got dispatched for an oven fire. Chief 23 (Cole) responded with-in seconds. Engine 23-1 (Carroll) with 4 responded soon after. Chief 23 got on the scene with nothing showing from side alpha.
After investigated, it was determined the fire was out.
Engine 23-1's crew established one blowhard fan in the front door to push all the smoke out. The crews cleared at 1551 hours.

Finally, The Avondale Fire Company along with Medic 94, was alerted for an accident with possible entrapment in the 6000 block of Limestone Road. Chief 23 (Cole) added two additional BLS units (Basic Life Support) due to reports of many injuries. This added Ambulance 24-2 and 22-2. Rescue 23 (Bessicks with 6) went responding minutes later. Chief 23 went on the scene and confirmed one trapped and one down on the side of the road. Rescue 23 arrived and stabilized the car. The spreaders and O-cutters went in service for extrication. Extrication was complete at 1646 hours. Crews assisted with clean up.
