The Kennett Fire Company No 1 hosted a class for BVR (Basic Vehicle Rescue) and offered it to Avondale and Po-Mar-Lin of Unionville members. Four of the Avondale Members took this BVR class hosted by Kennett. Crews spent several hours on Thursday nights, Saturdays and Sundays. Crews spent up to 45 hours to complete this class. Crews used multiple hand tools to simulate powered tools in the case they would break down. Crews also used power tools to disable the doors and roofs to remove a patient. Crews spent time stabilizing the cars without moving the vehicle. Crews stabilized the vehicles in multiple scenario one on all four wheels, one on its side, and one on it’s roof. For the final day Sunday February 26th, Blittersdorf towing gave them 3 more vehicles to train with. Crews practiced a scenario of a t-bone accident. A Cadillac smashed into the passenger side door and trapped the patient up against the door and center console and they had to remove the victim. Crews then had to stabilize a jeep on top of a stone pile about to flip over. Crews stabilized the vehicle and removed the patient without moving the car. All four members passed the class and are moving onto Advanced Vehicle Rescue.
