Avondale Fire Company is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part-time Firefighter/EMT. Found in 1887, Avondale Fire Company provides fire and emergency medical services to the residents of Avondale Borough, New Garden, and parts of London Grove, London Britain, Franklin, and West Marlborough Townships. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Firefighter/EMT position is a professional first responder role. The following are primary duties and responsibilities:

• Provide protection to life and property by responding to fire emergencies, alarms, accidents or calls for service by functioning as a firefighter, EMT, driver, pump operator, and/or initial company officer.
• Provide emergency medical treatment to victims of accidents and illness by providing safe and efficient transportation as required.
• Be familiar with all fire apparatus, ambulances and support vehicles and trailers.
• Be fluent in the Standard Operating Guidelines, rules and regulations of Avondale Fire Company, State of Pennsylvania DOH, and the County of Chester.
• Assist with fire prevention duties and special details as assigned while on duty.
• While not performing in the role of a Firefighter/EMT, employees shall carry out other duties including operational readiness, care, and maintenance of all fire apparatus, ambulances, and equipment carried on each vehicle. Employees shall be responsible for building maintenance, light custodial duties, and other duties assigned by the Career Staff Supervisor or Chief Officers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty as previously outlined. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully serve as a Firefighter/EMT:

• Must be 21years old prior to hire date
• Possess a valid Drivers license
• Firefighter I Certification - Pennsylvania Office of the State Fire Commissioner OR National (NBFSPQ or IFSAC)
• Current Pennsylvania DOH Emergency Medical Technician - Basic
• Current Health Care Provider CPR/AED Card
• Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC)
• Pump Operations
• Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician
• Hazardous Materials Operations (NFPA 472)
• NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Possess a High School Diploma or GED Equivalency; (Associates degree or higher preferred)
• 2 years experience as primary care provider in 9-1-1 EMS setting
• 2 years experience driving ambulances and fire apparatus in 9-1-1 setting

The Avondale Fire Company requires a pre-employment drug test, medical examination, and physical examination administered to all applicants who have received a conditional offer of employment, which will be paid for by the Avondale Fire Company.

Any applicant who is given a conditional offer of employment must receive a negative drug test prior to performing job duties for the Avondale Fire Company. If the pre-duty test result is positive, then the conditional offer shall be revoked.
