On Thursday, November 2nd, Avondale, Hockessin, Kennett, West Grove, and Longwood (RIT) Fire Companies were dispatched at 1508 hours to the 500 block of Egypt Run Road for a reported house fire. Deputy 23 went responding within seconds of dispatch reporting a column of smoke from a mile out and requested the working fire dispatch which added Rescue 27 for AIR, Rescue 21 (Oxford) for the second RIT, Medic 94, the Chester County Fire Marshal and PECO Gas and Electric. Deputy 23 arrived at 1511 hours with fire showing from the rear of a 1 ½ story single family home, as well as the 500 gallon propane cylinder relief valve. New Castle Tanker 19 arrived, pulling into the driveway. Tanker 19's crew pulled two hand-lines. One hand-line was for fire suppression and the second for the propane cylinder fire. Engine 23-2 arrived laying in from the hydrant supplying Tanker 19. The engine began primary searches with negative findings and then joined and assisted Tanker 19's crew. Ladder 19 arrived throwing ground ladders to all sides of the residence. The interior crew stopped the fire from spreading into the house any further. Due to the extensive over-haul, command requested a 2nd alarm for additional manpower. Exterior crews kept water on the leaking propane cylinder. Additional crews handled overhaul.
Avondale units cleared around 1730 hours.

Special thanks to Lancaster County Tanker 52-1 (Christiana) and Lancaster County Engine 51-1 (Bart) for standing by in the Avondale local while we operated at the incident.
