Early Morning Diner Fire

The Kennett Fire Company along with Avondale, Po-Mar-Lin, Longwood, Rocky Run and Union Fire Companies were dispatched to a structure fire in the 700 block of Baltimore Pike at 0020 hours. Chief 23 arrived at 0022 hours to find a one story restaurant with smoke showing from the eaves of the roof. Chief 23 had Engine 24-1 lay a 5” line from a nearby hydrant, and pull their 1 3/4" hand-line to the A side of the building. Engine 24-1's crew forced entry and found fire in the kitchen area. Engine 23-1's crew arrived and was tasked with roof operations. The crew cut and opened the roof to check for extensions. Crews handled extensive over-haul of the building. Additional crews were in manpower before returning soon after. Crews operated for about 2 hours before being released. Final crews cleared around 0200.
