The Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to the parking lot of the Giant Food Store for a reported car fire. Chief 23 arrived moments later with an engine compartment well involved with exposures to other vehicles. Rescue 23 arrived, pulled a hand-line and extinguished the fire. Engine 23-2's crew disconnected the battery and took care of hazards.

As crews were cleaning up, the chief was advised of a second car fire after an accident at Starr and Newark Roads. The crews quickly cleaned up and responded from Giant. Tanker 23 arrived first and found another engine compartment well involved. The crew from Tanker 23 pulled an 1 3/4" hand-line and began the fire attack. Crews from the Rescue and Engine 23-2 arrived and assisted the tanker crew. Final units cleared around 2300 hours.
