Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to the 1300 block of Newark Road for a reported pole fire. Engine 23-1 responded and was advised by CCFB of a downed electrical pole that contained a transformer, both were on fire and there was fire extending into the grass. Due to the nature of the report, the engine requested PECO to be dispatched. 23-31 arrived moments later and confirmed the report of a pole down with an active fire. Engine 1 arrived and pulled a 200’ handline to protect the exposures, which was a building approximately 50 feet away. Engine 23-2 arrived and stood-by. Traffic 23 and the Fire Police responded to assist in scene safety since the business was still open. The engines waited for PECO to secure the electric and extinguish the fire before returning. Units were on scene for almost 2 hours.
