| On the first Wednesday night of February, members of the Avondale Fire Company held their weekly in-house training on hoseline advancement. Crews practiced pulling 1 3/4" primary fire attack lines off of Engine 23-2 and into a simulated fire. Crews had to deploy the line in a fast, yet safe matter, as they would have to do on a real incident. During the training, members paired up in teams of two and had to pull the hose from the truck and move through multiple doors as a simulated house, making sure that the hose was free of kinks and practiced the best techniques for moving a hose around a building. After a hose was deployed, crews repacked the hose on the truck in a "minute man" pack allowing new members to get hands on training on department equipment. Crews also discussed proper firefighting techniques, such as: checking the door for heat prior to entering, proper door control for safety of the hose team and fire control. Crews practiced for two hours allowing new and old members to sharpen their skills. This allowed all the members to share their experiences and learn from each other. This type of training allows the Avondale Fire Company to always be ready for an incident. The Avondale Fire Company is always looking for new members. If you have any questions feel free to come down to the firehouse any Wednesday night from 7-9 and pick up an application. |
