Around 0220 hours on January 3rd, The Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company was alerted to the Willowdale Center for a fire alarm. Assistant 36 arrived to find fire through the roof, and quickly up-graded the incident to a working building fire. The Avondale Fire Company was alerted for 2 engines and an ambulance. Engine 23-1 arrived as the fourth due engine and laid a second supply line (5" hose) from the intersection of Routes 926 and 82. The crew from Engine 23-1 went right to work and put a 3rd hand-line in-service and assisted with fire suppression. Engine 23-2 arrived and secured Engine 23-1's supply line at the hydrant and supplied water to the fire scene. Crews assisted in the fire attack and overhaul for four hours before being released by Command around 0630 hours.

While the Avondale units were working at the building fire, Traffic 23 came upon an accident at State Road and Pennsylvania Ave. in Avondale at 0552 hours. Traffic 23 found two vehicles blocking the intersection, and requested a fire and EMS response. Since Avondale was tied up on the building fire, Lancaster Tanker 4-5 (Kinzer) and Rescue 8 (Keystone Valley) responded from Avondale as the stand-by cover assignments. Crews handled hazards, debris, and traffic control. Once the vehicles were removed from the roadway, crews returned to Station 23 to remain on stand-by.

As units were getting cleaned up and going back in to service, the company was dispatched at 0733 hours to Scarlett and Hillendale Roads for an accident. Reports advised a trash truck and small SUV involved. Captain 23 arrived shortly after dispatch and confirmed the report. Crews handled hazard control and debris on the roadway. Fire Police were in-service with traffic control around the incident.
Units cleared at 0800 hours.

Thank you to Kinzer and Keystone Valley Fire Departments for covering our first due district and handling the MVC.
