Accident with One Trapped

The Avondale Fire Company was dispatched around 0030 hours along with Medic 94 for an accident with entrapment in the 300 block of Bucktoe Road. Chief, Deputy, Ambulance 23-2 and Medic 94 units all went responding immediately. Units were updated with information of a single vehicle accident with possibly two patients and one of the patients was trapped. New Castle County A-19 (Hockessin EMS) was dispatched as a second BLS unit to the scene. Deputy 23 was the first to arrive and found one vehicle in the woods with a total of 3 patients and also confirmed entrapment of one of the patients. Ambulance 24 was added as the third BLS unit. Chief 23 arrived and established the “Avondale Command” and Deputy 23 handled operations. Rescue 23 arrived shortly after and began extrication operations to remove the patient from the vehicle. A door removal and dash roll was preformed in order to safely extricate the patient from the vehicle. Extrication was completed in just under 14 minutes. Crews remained on the scene to assist the towing company with lighting and vehicle removal.

Avondale Fire Police closed Bucktoe Road at Richards Way and Sharp Roads while crews worked on extrication.

Ambulance 23-2, Ambulance 24-1 and Ambulance 19 all transported one patient to local hospitals.
