On February 4th at 1549 hours, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to assist Kennett Fire Company with a reported apartment building fire. Deputy 24 (Melton) responded seconds later and received numerous reports of smoke coming from the building. Additional reports stated there was a possible entrapment. Deputy 24 arrived on scene to find a three story multiple occupancy building with smoke showing from all sides. Engine 23-1 arrived as the third due engine and laid a second supply line from Linden Circle and Mill Road. Crews pulled a 1-3/4” hand line from Engine 23-1 and progressed through the Charlie side of the structure and met the first due engine crew inside. Once the crews got inside, the bulk of the fire was extinguished. Crews from Engine 24 found fire on division one with extension onto division two. Engine 23-1's crew made their way to division two to find the fire extended. They proceeded to knock the fire with Engine 25-2’s (Longwood's) crew. Engine 23-2 arrived as the fifth due engine and secured Engine 24's hydrant at Washington and State Streets. Engine 23-1 assisted with overhaul.
