At 12:22pm on Saturday, February 29th, Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for a single vehicle accident on Rt.1 northbound in the area of mile marker 18.8. Avondale crews arrived to find a heavily damaged Lamborghini which had come to rest in the median after sliding underneath the safety cable divider that is installed in the median to help prevent vehicles from crossing into oncoming traffic. A small fire had started in or under the car which was quickly extinguished by firefighters. Due to the amount of debris that had scattered across both northbound and southbound lanes of the highway, Avondale Fire Police had to close some of the lanes of travel in both directions, but were able to keep traffic flowing throughout much of the duration of the incident. The driver was not injured in the accident.
