On Saturday, April 25th at 1238 hours, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for a gas leak in the 100 Block of Waterfall Lane in the Twin Bridges Development in Franklin Township. Chief 23 responded at 1239 hours and was advised that there was an active gas leak from a gas line that was struck outside of the residence. Chief 23 arrived shortly after with a two-story single-family dwelling confirming the active gas leak at the rear of the residence. Engine 23-1 arrived and stretched a charged 1¾" handline for safety in case of a possible gas explosion. Tanker 23 arrived connecting a 5” supply line to the engine in case the engine needed extra water because the development lacked hydrants. Crews were told by the homeowner that they were digging up a tree and struck a propane line underneath. The propane line was actively leaking and making a hissing sound due to the amount of pressure being released. Engine 23-2 made a response and they were given instructions to make entry to the basement to shut off the electric and any other utilities, but it was found that the homeowner had previously disconnected all power sources. Crews located the underground propane tank and shut off the tank valve. The leak from the propane line ceased and provided assurance to the crews and homeowners that the leak had stopped. Schagrin Gas Company was notified about the leak and made the response to the scene. Once Schagrin arrived, the incident was handed over to the them allowing all 23 units to clear the scene. |
