At 1014 hours on Friday, September 11th, 2020, Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to the 200 block of Ellicott Road in New Garden Twp. to rescue a homeowner who had been injured while working on the roof. Rescue 23 and Ambulance 23-2 arrived to find the homeowner injured on the roof of the home after being struck by a tree branch while making roofing repairs. Due to the nature of the injuries, the patient had to remain in an upright, seated-style position. EMS and rescue crews secured the patient to a K.E.D. (Kendrick Extrication Device) and then to a backboard and safely lowered the patient to the ground with a rigging system. The patient was transported to the hospital to be treated for the injuries.

Shortly after clearing the scene and returning to Station 23, firefighters noticed that it could soon start to rain so Career Captain Nuse, along with volunteer firefighters Deputy Chief Carroll, Rescue Lieutenant Franks, and Firefighter Winters went back to the patient's home to tarp and cover the roof where the homeowner had been working to protect it from potentially foul weather.
