The Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for an automobile accident at Newark and Polo Roads at 1416 hours. Assistant 23 responded shortly after dispatch and received additional information of possibly having two separate accidents one at Polo Road and one at Airport Way. Deputy 23 and Assistant 23 both arrived to find one vehicle off to the side of the road at Polo Road with nobody injured. The chiefs then arrived at the second accident located at Newark Road and Airport Way finding one subject trapped in the vehicle. Deputy 23 assessed the scene and found one patient in Cardiac Arrest while Assistant 23 established Newark Road Command. Engine 23-1 arrived and assisted in vehicle rescue operations. Due to multiple patients, command requested two additional Basic Life Support units bringing Kennett and West Grove to the scene. After further investigation, Kennett’s ambulance transported to Christiana Hospital with Medic 94-4 and West Grove was released on-scene. A fire police task force was also struck to assist the fire police in closing multiple roads in nearby areas due to the incident being multiple hours. The associated pictures show fire police diverting traffic away from the scene.
