At 2:16 pm on Friday, February 12th, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for an automobile accident at Newark and Polo Roads in New Garden Township. While en route to the scene, Assistant Chief 23 received additional information that there may be two separate accidents on Newark Road, one in the area of Polo Road and one in the area of Airport Way. Deputy Chief 23 and Assistant Chief 23 arrived on the scene of the first accident at Polo Road to find one vehicle off to the side of the road with no injuries. The Deputy and Assistant proceeded to the second accident located at Newark Road and Airport Way, which involved two vehicles, and found one person trapped. Deputy 23 assessed the scene and found one patient in cardiac arrest while Assistant 23 established Newark Road Command. Crews arrived on Engine 23-1 and assisted in vehicle rescue operations. Since there were multiple patients with injuries involved in the second incident, Command requested two additional Basic Life Support units which brought Kennett and West Grove ambulances to the scene. Kennett’s Ambulance 24-1 transported one patient to Christiana Hospital with Medic 94-4. One patient did not survive the accident. A fire police task force was dispatched to assist Avondale's fire police in closing roads in the area for an extended time. Crews cleared the scene at approximately 5:30 pm. The pictures show fire police diverting traffic away from the scene. |
