On Saturday, February 27th, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for a building fire in the 200 block of Thompson Road in New Garden Township. Kennett, Hockessin, Longwood, and Po-Mar-Lin Fire Companies were also alerted as well as West Grove Fire Company for RIT.

Avondale's Engine 23-1 was the first unit to respond and received reports of a freezer on fire inside the building. Kennett's Chief arrived to find a one-story market with nothing showing. Engine 23-1 arrived and dropped a water supply line at the corner of Thompson Road and West Cypress Street. The crew from Engine 23-1 investigated upon arrival and determined that the fire was out. Firefighters removed the freezer from the building.

Deputy 23 had Command and the situation was placed under control within 10 minutes of dispatch.
