Volunteers from the Avondale Fire Company were busy running a total of 20 Fire/EMS calls across the past 3 days.

Starting Christmas Eve, just as families around the area were sitting down for dinner, Cecil County fireboard requested Chester County units from Station 21 (Union), 22 (West Grove), and 23 (Avondale) to assist Singerly Fire Company on a working barn fire.

The Avondale local was covered by Lancaster Tanker 52 and Engine 24 while units and crews from 23 were out of the county assisting others.

Crews cleared the scene around midnight and were woken up around 3:40AM for reports of an unconscious subject in a vehicle. On-duty EMS crews responded to the scene to discover a vehicle in the middle of the road. The Police Department requested Fire Police to be dispatched to assist in closing down the area to provide incident safety. Crews cleared and returned home around 6AM.

Crews were dispatched at 12:25PM on Christmas day for reports of a fire inside of an oven. Upon arrival, it was determined that the fire was contained to the oven and was self-extinguished by the homeowner closing the oven door and preventing oxygen from fueling the flames.

Crews were then alerted at 1:32PM to the area of Newark and Buttonwood Roads for reports of a vehicle into a tree.
No incident was found and units cleared.

Finally, crews responded at 1:08AM for reports of a cardiac arrest. Fire crews assisted EMS on the scene.

From our Career Staff to our Volunteers, we wish you and your families a merry holiday season and a happy new year!
