On Saturday, April 9th, nineteen members and career staff of the Avondale Fire Company traveled to the West Chester Fire Training Complex on Snyder Avenue. The department was there for their annual burn day practicing skills under live fire conditions. Captain Brandon Cole directed the days efforts and was assisted in keeping the live fires burning by firefighters from Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company. Evolutions included simulated basement fires, building fires with victims entrapped, multiple fires inside one structure, and mayday(s) of downed fire fighters.

Firefighters from the Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company assisted Avondale by stoking the fires, so Avondale crews could train together.

We would like to thank Lancaster County Tanker 52 (Christiana) and New Castle County Squad 17 (Five Points) for covering the Avondale area while crews trained.

Shortly after Avondale units returned to service, and stand-bys were released, we were dispatched to assist Kennett on a residential structure fire. Engine 23-1, Engine 23-2, Traffic 23 and Ambulance 23-2 responded. Engine 23-2 arrived as the 4th due engine and secured Engine 25-2's hydrant. Engine 23-1 arrived and was assigned RIT by command.
The fire was knocked down quickly and command scaled the incident back to station 24 & 25 units. Avondale Fire Police also responded to this and shut down surrounding roadways.
