Just after clearing a previous fire alarm in New Garden Township, crews from Avondale were dispatched to assist the West Grove Fire Company on a reported house fire on Good Hope Road in London Britain Township. Newark, Hockessin, and Longwood were also dispatched.

Engine 23-2 arrived as the first-due engine, reporting a vacant structure fully involved on all floors and through the roof. Crews had a hard time finding a direct pathway to the structure since it sat very far off the roadway in the woods. Crews eventually found their way up to the structure and carried with them over 550 feet of leader line as well as 500 feet of 1¾".

Engine 23-1, Tanker 23 and Ambulance 23-1 also made the response to the scene. Engine 23-1’s crew stood-by in the manpower pool with firefighters from neighboring companies, Tanker 23 assisted with supplying water to the scene due to the absence of hydrants in the area, and the ambulance provided medical assistance where needed.

As previously mentioned, there are no hydrants in the entire township of London Britain, so a tanker task force was requested which brings in tankers from companies throughout Southern Chester County. The stations who were part of this tanker task force were Union Fire Company of Oxford, Kennett, Cochranville, Longwood, and Po-Mar-Lin (Unionville).

Avondale Fire Company also sends a thank you to Christiana Fire Company (Lancaster, PA) for standing by at Station 23 while crews operated.
