The Avondale Fire Company was alerted to assist the Hockessin Fire Company on an accident reported serious at 2051 hours. Due to the in-house duty crew, the Ambulance, Engine 1 and Rescue responded immediately on dispatch. While responding, crews found a smoke condition in the area of 8870 Gap Newport Pike. Rescue 23 continued to the accident while Engine 23-1 investigated the smoke condition. After further investigation, it was found to be a camper on fire with possible extension into the house. Engine 23-1 split laid up the driveway to the scene and deployed handlines for fire suppression. Hockessin put their accident under control and released Rescue 23. Rescue 23 then arrived at the camper fire as the first due special. Rescue 23’s crew checked the house for extension, found no extension and began a primary search of the RV. Crews from Longwood stretched a second line to assist from the exterior. Engine 25-2 handled the Second Due Engine role and laid a supply line from Heathery Lane and New Garden Road. Fire was under control at 2122 hours.
Final units cleared at 2345 hours.
