December 23, 2022

During the course of the past 24 hours, the Avondale crews have remained busy between the storms and the icy weather. The crews have ran six calls.
The first call was on 12/23 at 1130 hours. Avondale crews were alerted to assist Kennett Fire Company on reported smoke in the building at the Rite Aid in Kennett Square Borough. Engine 23-2 and Tanker 23 responded. Engine 23-2 arrived as the 3rd engine and set up the initial Rapid Intervention Team until the dispatched RIT arrived. Engine 23-2's crew secured the power to the building and assisted Po-Mar-Lin in repacking supply line.
The second call was an accident in the 1200 block of Baltimore Pike. Due to the strong winds, a tree had fallen on top of a vehicle. Chief and Rescue 23 arrived with two separate accidents. Both were caused by the tree falling on the roadway. The first accident was the tree falling on top of the car. The second accident was a rear end collision. Penn-dot, Verizon and PECO all had to be called to assist at the scene due to the tree pulling wires down. Crews secured all three vehicles. Fire Police units from Kennett, Longwood and Po-Mar-Lin were all requested to the scene to assist in closing Baltimore Pike. Final units cleared around 1800 hours.
While crews were on scene of the accident, the company was dispatched to assist Hockessin with an automatic fire alarm on Gun Club road. Rescue 23 was released from the accident and responded to the fire alarm. Rescue 23 arrived behind Rescue-Engine 19 and prepared to lay a line if needed. The alarm was proven faulty and crews cleared.
As crews were returning from the fire alarm, the station was alerted to a wires call with an active fire at the top of the tree. Crews notified PECO and cleared.
