Around 2000 hours Monday evening, just about thirty minutes after clearing a previous fire alarm in the Somerset Lakes Development, the Avondale Fire Company, Medic 94 and Hockessin Fire Company were dispatched to the intersection of Laurel Heights Road and Middleton Lane in New Garden Township for a reported auto accident with entrapment. Due to the in-house duty crew, Engines 23-1 and 23-2 both responded on dispatch with 5 personnel on each apparatus. With Rescue 23 being out of service, the Hockessin Fire Company (Ladder 19) was alerted as part of the rescue assignment. Chief 23 arrived first on the scene and found one vehicle against a tree on its side. After further investigation, the chief confirmed there was no entrapment. With no entrapment, Chief 23 returned the Hockessin unit and Medic 94-1. Chief 23 found that the vehicle had also severed the fire hydrant at the intersection. Engines 23-1 and 23-2 arrived and fire police closed the road while the crews checked the vehicle for hazards. While Engine 23-2 was released, Engine 23-1 remained on the scene and provided lighting for Blittersdorf's towing.
