| At 1242 hours, the Avondale Fire Company was alerted for an auto accident in the 500 Block of Newark Road in New Garden Township with multiple calls of a pick-up versus a telephone pole.
Due to an in-house duty crew, Squad 23 along with Ambulance 23-1 responded less than a minute after dispatch. While enroute, Chester County Fireboard notified 23 units that callers were reporting that a pick-up truck had struck and taken down a telephone pole and that the wires were over the vehicle.
Callers were also reporting that the wires were live and preventing the operator from being able to safely leave the vehicle upgrading the assignment to entrapment.
Crews arrived on location and confirmed the report and immediately started for PECO electric, Verizon and Fire Police. Chief 23 also made the response and held Avondale Command. Crews were able to safely remove the operator from the passenger side of the vehicle and was then treated by EMS and transported to a nearby hospital.
23 Fire Police closed Newark Road at Sunny Dell Road and Egypt Run Road. Due to the shear amount of damage from the pole and multiple wires scattered across the roadway, PENNDOT was requested to the scene to place barricades at the same location Fire Police were stationed at.
PECO also arrived and secured the electric and PENNDOT arrived with barricades. The scene was then turned over to PD and the utility companies and crews cleared at 1359 hours. |
