| At 1830 hours, Avondale crews along with a MICU1-25 and Medic 94 were alerted for a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Thompson Rd and West Cypress Street in New Garden Township.
Initial reports stated that there was a two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle with the operator laying in the grass. Within 2 minutes of dispatch, Chief 23, Southern Chester County Regional Police and firefighters that were in the area were on scene.
Units arriving found the sole motorcycle driver laying in the grass with bystanders administrating CPR. Police, fire and medical personnel quickly worked together to administer first aid. Despite the quick response and the team’s efforts, the operator was pronounced deceased on scene.
The second vehicle remained on scene and the driver assisted with the investigation. No other patients were transported to the hospital.
Because the crash resulted in a fatality, the state police collision analysis and reconstruction (CARS) team was called in to assist with the accident investigation. Fire and police units remained on scene and fire police kept Cypress Street as well as Baltimore Pike closed for the duration of the call. All units cleared the scene at 10:06pm.
We greatly appreciate the efforts of the public that were immediately on scene. With such a traumatic event, and with all the chaos that ensues, we do not often remember to thank those that stepped in to help.
