| At 1728 hours, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to the intersection of Sharp Road and Gap Newport Pike in New Garden Township for a fire police request after a two vehicle auto accident as the second snow fall began. Deputy 23 responded to the scene and upon arrival, noticed that there was a need for a full company response. Squad 23 responded on dispatch with a crew of five to provide traffic control and scene lighting. While crews were setting up on Sharp Road and Route 41, Chester County Fireboard was advising Deputy 23 of a second accident involving two vehicles in the 200 block of Sharp Road. 23-31 made the response to the 200 block of Sharp Road to confirm the second accident and if there were any injuries. Deputy 23 diverted the Squad to handle the second accident. Upon 23-31's arrival, he advised that there were two subjects stating they were injured and wanted to be checked by EMS. This started Ambulance 23-1 and Ambulance 19 from Hockessin. Crews checked both vehicles for any hazards and any loose debris. Fire Police had Sharp Road closed at Bucktoe Road and Sheehan Road for the duration of both incidents. Deputy 23 held command for the Route 41 crash while Chief 23 held command for the 200 block of Sharp Road crash. A special thank you to New Garden Township Public Works for salting the roadway during the incident to provide safer road conditions for fire apparatus and other motorists. |
