At 2146 hours, the West Grove Fire Company was dispatched to the unit block of White Oak Road in London Britain Township for a reported unknown-type fire.

The initial caller reported a large fire that was rapidly growing but was unable to determine exactly what was burning. A second caller later confirmed the fire involved a chicken coop to the rear of a residence that was fully engulfed in flames. With this updated information, Squad 23 responded with a crew of 4 to assist.

Squad 23 responded alongside the Aetna Fire Department, which was dispatched on the upgrade for an engine. Deputy 23 and Assistant 22 arrived on scene to find a 30-foot by 10-foot chicken coop well involved. Aetna Fire Department’s Squad 9 and Quint 10 were the first arriving units and stretched a bumper line to begin fire suppression.

Engine 22-1 arrived as the second-due engine, with Squad 23 assuming the third-due engine. Crews assisted with fire extinguishment and overhaul until the incident was placed under control at 2204 hours.
