Three Calls in the 23 Local

On Tuesday October 7th 2014 at 1445 hours, the Avondale Fire Company along with Hockessin, Kennett, West Grove and RIT from Longwood were dispatched for a garage fire in the 6000 block of Limestone Road. New Garden Police Department was on scene minutes later reporting that the garage was well involved with box trailers as exposers. Chief 23 (Cole) was a mile out with a good header and requested three additional tankers. Chief 23 (Cole) went on scene establishing Command and advised Engine 23-2 to pull two 1 ¾ hand-line, one to protect exposures and one for the fire building. Engine 24-2 arrived and laid a 5" supply line from the intersection to Engine 23-2 for water supply. Ladder 22 set-up on the "C" side preparing for truck operations. Water supply was established using a port-a-tank. Rescue 23 set up a fill site at a nearby hydrant. Command placed fire under control with units working at 1531 hours.
Final 23 units cleared at 1817.

As units were clearing the garage fire CCFB advised Chief 23 they were alerting the relocates for an accident in the 900 block of Newark Rd. Chief 23 and Ambulance 231 made the response on dispatch as well as our relocates (Lancaster County Tanker 5-2-1 and Union Fire Company (Oxford) Engine 21-2). Chief and Ambulance 23 arrived to find a 3 vehicle accident blocking the road, with 3 patients. Chief 23 established Newark Road command adding Ambulance 23-2 and NCC Ambulance 19.
Engine 21-2 arrived handling hazards, while TKR521 arrived and assisted EMS.
Units cleared at 1804 Hours.

At 1916 hours the Avondale Fire Company along with Kennett, Longwood and RIT from West Grove were alerted to the 100 Block of Bancroft Road for a dwelling fire. Chief (Cole) and Deputy (Carroll) went enroute seconds later with a report of smoke coming from the walls on the first floor. Chief and Deputy 23 arrived at 1919 hours to a single story, single family residents with nothing showing. After investigating, crews found fire in the walls around the chimney. Engine 23-2 pulled a 1 3/4" hand line and tools. The Crews opened the wall to find the fire, and checked for extensions. This assignment was under control and reduced to AFC units at 1923 hours.
Final units cleared at 2010 Hours.
