At 1546 hours Kennett, Avondale, Longwood, Po-Mar-Lin. and Hockessin Fire Companies were alerted for a house fire in the 200 block of North Union Street. Chief 24 (Melton) went on scene seconds later after the dispatch reporting a working fire and requested a 2nd alarm and RIT. There was heavy fire on the "C" side of the building. Ladder 25 arrived taking the driveway and deploying a hand-line for fire attack. Engine 24-2 arrived hooking into a hydrant for water supply, crews pulled a hand-line and made entry into the residence from the "A" side. Avondale units arrived and assisted with multiple tasks. Ladder 25 and Ladder 22 went into service in the driveway and cut the roof for ventilation. Crews spent hours on the scene for overhaul and hitting hotspots. The fire was placed under control at 1905 hours.

Final Avondale units cleared at 2058 hours
