At 1954 hours on November 26 the Avondale Fire Company, Kennett Fire/EMS, West Grove, and Longwood (RIT) were dispatched for a dwelling fire in the 1000 block of Newark Road. The Chief’s, Engine 23-2, and Tanker went responding within seconds. CCFB advised they were getting reports of a working fire in the bedroom of the residents. Units arrived on scene at 2002 hours, with the Chief giving a report of fire showing from the “D” (Delta) side of a 2 story duplex. Engine 23-2 pulled two 1¾” hand lines and made an interior attack on the fire. Chief 23 was advised of a burnt resident in the neighbor’s house, this added an additional BLS from WGFC and ALS from Medic 94. Deputy 23 established command, while Chief handled operations. Tower 24 crews laddered the building and preformed ventilation using ground ladders. EMS treated and transported the resident. Engine 22 laid a 5” line from a nearby hydrant to the scene for water supply. Crews completed extensive overhaul operations to expose hot spots within the duplex residence. The final units cleared at 0000 hours.
