On Friday, December 19th the engine replacement committee made the journey home from the 4Guys plant in Meyersdale, PA with the new engine 23-1. The engine replacement committee was formed back in late 2013 and consisted of 5 members of the company. After countless hours of meetings and phone calls the time had come to make the arrangements to bring home the new apparatus. The committee made the trip up the night before and spent the greater part of the day Friday at the plant making last minute additions and corrections. The engine is the 7th piece of apparatus that Avondale has bought from 4Guys since 1992. This engine is the replacement for Engine 23-3 which was sold back in January of this year. The new engine, which will be known as engine 23-1, sits on a spartan chassis and has a 1,000 gallon water tank. It is equipped with a 1,750 gallon/minute pump, 2 electric reels, booster reel, basic vehicle rescue tools/stabilization and a full compliment of hand tools. For fire attack, it has 7 pre-connected attack lines of various sizes and lengths and the capability to use class A foam on most. The engine will also have 1,200 feet of 5 inch supply line and 300 feet of 3 inch supply. All warning and scene lights are LED, which allow the brightest of light with minimal draw of the engine's generator. The engine is scheduled for radio installation and graphic application and will hopefully go into service late January or early February.

The company is very excited and can't wait to use the new engine for its first out attack piece.
