Chimney Fire

On Sunday, February 8th, the Avondale Fire Company along with West Grove, Kennett, Hockessin, and Longwood for RIT were alerted at 1250 hours of a dwelling fire. Chief 23 and Engine 23-2 were enroute within seconds. The chief was advised that the roof was burning around the chimney. Assistant 23 went on scene with nothing showing. Assistant 23 established "Ellicott Command", while Chief 23 handled "Operations" Engine 23-2 went on-scene and crews reported to the third floor with a crew of five. Crews checked for extension with nothing found. Ladder 22 went to the roof checking for any fire around the chimney, and dropping chains down the chimney for clean out. The fire was placed under control at 1321 hours. Crews did overhaul and cleared at 1358 hours.
