On Sunday night the Avondale Fire Company, along with Kennett, Po-Mar-Lin and Longwood Fire Companies were asked to escort the returning KAU Kings through Kennett Square. Around 1930hrs the bus carrying the Kings arrived at the outskirts of Kennett Square, to multiple fire and police apparatus waiting to escort the champs through town and down to their home field off of Route 82 just south of the Route 1 bypass. The convoy escorted the Kings bus in the middle of all of the fire trucks. The parade went from the Exlon Company campus just outside of Kennett, down State Street, stopping at Broad Street so the team could exit the bus and walk a block down the road before getting back on the bus at State Street and Route 82. With sirens going the team was escorted safely to the field.
The Kings played in the Senior League World Series, becoming the American champions earning them the right to represent the United States against the team from Panama. The KAU team played a tough final game on Saturday, losing it by one run. The final score was 2-1. To show the team how much they meant to our small community, the Borough of Kennett planned the welcome home in just a few short hours.
