| At 0909 hours, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched for a reported fire alarm to a residence on Jason Court in New Garden Township, but multiple calls into the Chester County Dispatch Center proved otherwise. Multiple calls came in about fire coming from the garage of the house and the incident was upgraded at 0911 hours.
A visible column of black smoke could be seen for miles around Southern Chester County. Captain 23 arrived on the scene first to find a 2.5 story single family dwelling with fire showing from the roof and requested the working fire dispatch.
Engine 24, Engine 23-1, and Engine 23-2 made their responses to the scene with Chief and Deputy 23 responding shortly after. Chief 23 (Cole) arrived, evaluated the incident and requested a 2nd alarm. Engine 24 arrived as the first due engine and hooked into the hydrant in the cul-de-sac. Crews from Engine 24 stretched an attack line to the garage to start initial fire attack.
Engine 23-2 arrived as the second due engine and laid in from the second hydrant at Edward Drive and Jason Court. Crews from Engine 2 then deployed a second attack line off of Engine 24 and began the fire attack on the Alpha side. Engine 23-1 crews arrived as the third due engine and set up the initial RIT crew.
Due to rapidly deteriorating interior conditions because of the heavy fire load, operations advised crews to evacuate the structure and had Ladder 25 use their master stream to knock down the bulk of the fire.
Once fire conditions improved, operations had crews re-enter the structure and continue interior operations and check for any fire extension throughout the house.
Fire Police from 23, 22, and 24 provided traffic control around the scene for responder safety.
Deputy 23 (Bessicks) held Jason Court Command, while Chief 23 held Operations during the incident. |
