Working Building

On Monday, May 29th, the Avondale Fire Company was participating in the annual Memorial Day parade along with Kennett, Longwood, Po-Mar-Lin and West Grove Fire Companies, when the company along with multiple mutual aid were dispatched at 1111 hours to the 1200 block of Newark Road for a reported building fire of a mushroom house. Chief 23, Engine 23-1, Tanker 23, Ambulance 23-2, Traffic 23, Engine 24-1, Engine 24-2, Tower 24-1, Tanker 24, Ambulance 24-1, Rescue 25, Engine 25-1, Engine 25-2, Ladder 25 and Engine 22-1 all responded within seconds of dispatch. Southern Chester County Regional Police arrived with fire showing. Chief 23 added the working fire dispatch. The working fire dispatch added Rescue 27, FMs and Medic 94 for a fire scene standby. Chief 23 arrived with fire showing, confirmed the working fire and established the Newark Road Command. Engine 23-1 arrived and dropped 5” at the end of the driveway and pulled two 1 ¾" to extinguish the building. Tower 24-1 was the first arriving truck and laddered the building. Longwood took the (RIT) assignment when arriving on the scene. Crews knocked the fire quickly. The assignment was reduced and the crew performed overhaul and were released soon after.
