The Avondale Fire Company was alerted for a woods fire on November 26th at 0112 hours in the area of Jack Reynolds Way. Chief and Deputy 23 went responding at 0116 hours and was advised by CCFB they were upgrading the box to a fully involved abandoned house fire on Hilltop Road. With the upgrade West Grove, Hockessin and Kennett Fire Companies (RIT) were added. Chief and Deputy arrived at 0122 hours and conformed the report, and requested PECO due to live electrical lines down in the front yard. Deputy 23 established “Hilltop Command”, while the Chief handled operations. Engine 23-2 arrived pulling 2) 1¾” hand-lines, while Tanker 23 supplied the engine. With limited hydrants in the area, command requested the 1st alarm tanker task force which added tankers from Cochranville, Po-Mar-Lin, and Christiana. Engine 32 established a fill site using a hydrant on Garden Station Road. Due to the structure collapse and no access to the residents, it was decided to use Ladder 22’s waterway to assist with extinguishing the fire. Command placed the fire was under control at 0208 hours.
Final units cleared at 0409 hours.
