On Sunday, February 22nd, the Avondale Fire Company along with the Chester County Hazmat Team were alerted for a gas leak in the 800 block of Sunrise Drive at 1753 hours. Assistant 23 (Bessicks) went responding within a minute and Chester County Fire Board advised him that a car had struck the top of an underground propane tank and it was now leaking. Rescue 23 made the response and were given orders to pull an 1 3/4" handline to protect the exposures. Crews used meters to check the house for traces of the gas and only found a light odor in the basement. Crews secured the gas line and remained on scene to help Blittersdorf Towing and Taylor Oil with lighting. Final units cleared at 2003 hours.
