On Sunday, April 5th, The Avondale Fire Company along with a Brush unit from The Kennett Fire Company were dispatched to the 1600 block of Baltimore Pike for the Trash and Woods fire at 1558 hours. As the Chief and Deputy went responding, the Chester County Fire Board gave a report of flames from a control burn that was spreading into a wooded area. Chief 23 arrived with a large trash fire containing tractor tires, and fire spreading up a slopped hill extending into the New Garden Airport property. Chief 23 established "Baltimore Pike Command" and had Engine 232 drop a 5” supply line at the end of the driveway for the tanker(s) to supply water to the scene. Command requested additional tankers and brush units which added Tankers(s) 22, 24, & 25 as well as Brush 25, TAC & ATV 36. Crews worked for about an hour before the fire was placed under control. Brush/Tanker 24, along with Brush/Tanker 25 were assigned to the New Garden Airport to protect the wooded area. Final units cleared the scene at 1803 hours.
