By Joey D'Ambrosio, Junior Firefighter
September 3, 2020

On September 3rd, as members were cleaning up from the boot drive on Route 41, they noticed a smoke condition starting in the area. Members were advised by a passer-by that smoke was coming from the roof of Edlon.

At 1918 hours, Chief 23 called into the Chester County Fireboard and requested the working building fire dispatch which alerted stations 23, 22, 24, 25, 27(RIT), NCC19, and HAZ-MAT15.

Engine 22-1 arrived on scene at the same time as Engine 23-1. Engine 22-1 took first due engine and dropped a 5” line from the hydrant on State Street and laid up to the building. A handline off Engine 22-1 was also flaked into the building. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the smoke condition was caused by a failed ventilation system on one of the main large industrial dryers on the exterior of the facility. Crews shut down power to the machinery and ventilated the dryer to remove the smoke from the building.

Hazmat 15 was recalled and the assignment was reduced while crews waited for the County Fire Marshal to finish his investigation.

Units: Chief, Engine 1, Rescue, Tanker, Traffic, Ambulance
