On Sunday afternoon, crews from the Hockessin Fire Company noticed a large area of black smoke coming from Lancaster Pike near the Delaware/PA state lines.

Both Squad and Car 19 made the response to investigate the smoke conditions.

At 1347 hours, Hockessin units located an extremely large unattended control burn in the 7620 block of Lancaster Pike, Hockessin.
Squad 19 pulled a hand-line and began to extinguish the fire, while Squad 19’s officer added Tanker 23 for additional water.
Chief and Tanker 23 made the response on dispatch. Units arrived and Tanker 23 utilized 3000 gallons of water along side 750 gallons from Squad 19. Crews also assisted with breaking apart the pile and cleaning up attack lines. Crews cleared 1430 hours.
