| At 1316 hours, the Avondale Fire Company was dispatched to the 100 Block of Cooper Road in New Garden Township for a reported cornfield on fire.
Squad 23 and Ambulance 23-1 made the response shortly after dispatch and were notified by Chester County Fireboard that the caller was reporting an area of 100' x 100' of an adjacent cornfield on fire and spreading.
23 units arrived and confirmed the report. Due to the windy conditions, AFC started a brush unit, which came from West Grove Fire Company. Crews deployed two attack handlines off of the Squad and immediately began knocking the fire from the sides and point of origin.
Tankers 22 and 23 responded along with Engine 22-1. Tanker 23 supplied 3500 gallons of water to Squad 23 during the length of the incident, while Tanker 22 supplied 3500 gallons of water to Engine 22-1, which was extinguishing a nearby controlled burn.
After the bulk of the fire was knocked down, Brush 22 made two sweeps around the cornfield, soaking down the perimeter and hot spots to prevent any future rekindles.
During the entirety of the incident, Deputy 23 held Avondale Command. All crews cleared the incident at 1412 hours. |
